The Perrysburg Area Chamber of Commerce announces the return of the Perrysburg Homecoming Parade and Festival, presented by Mercy Health. The event will coincide with Perrysburg High School Homecoming Weekend and take place in downtown Perrysburg on Saturday, September 21st, featuring a parade, downtown festival, and a celebration of Pro Baseball Hall of Famer, and former Perrysburg resident, Jim Leyland
Continuing with the tradition from last year’s Perrysburg Homecoming Festival, the Perrysburg Area Chamber of Commerce is thrilled to be able to bring this celebration back to the community for another year. The Perrysburg Homecoming Festival, presented by Mercy Health, will kick-off with a parade, beginning at 10am, along Louisiana Avenue through Historic Downtown Perrysburg. Following the parade, a large-scale festival will take over the downtown area with vendors, artisans, a business marketplace, and food trucks.
The main attraction of the Homecoming Parade will be Jim Leyland. Mr. Leyland, a Perrysburg native, returns home after managing Pittsburgh, Florida, Colorado, and Detroit from 1986-2013. He won the World Series with the Florida Marlins in 1997. On Sunday, July 21st, Jim Leyland was inducted into the Pro Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY. Mr. Leyland will serve as the Grand Marshal of the Perrysburg Homecoming Parade. The Perrysburg High School and Junior High School Marching bands will also feature in the parade, along with plenty of other local officials, groups, and businesses.
In addition to the vendors, artisans, business marketplace, and food trucks, the Perrysburg Chamber is happy to announce the continuing partnership the Perrysburg Area Historic Museum at the Spafford House, the Way Public Library, and Historic Perrysburg, Inc, at this year’s Perrysburg Homecoming Festival. The Heritage Pavilion will be located once again on Louisiana Avenue, near West Third Street. Special thanks to the Perrysburg Area Historic Museum at the Spafford House, Historic Perrysburg, Inc, and others to help us keep the history and heritage of our wonderful community alive. There will be plenty of fun for families as well with bouncy houses, pumpkin decorating, and live music.
The Perrysburg Schools and Perrysburg Schools Alumni Association have several exciting events scheduled at the Commodore Schoolyard on Saturday too. There will be a special ceremony to honor Jim Leyland at 12:30pm with local officials presenting proclamations. Perrysburg Schools teachers from Hull Prairie Intermediate will lead STEMonstrations from 1pm-3pm on the Commodore Schoolyard. There will be several ‘make and take” activities for kids. To round out Saturday’s festivities, the Perrysburg Schools Foundation and Perrysburg Schools Alumni Association will host the Coming Home Concert on the Commodore Lawn, with special help from Visit Perrysburg. More details on that event can be found by contacting the Perrysburg Schools Alumni Association Office.
The Perrysburg Area Chamber of Commerce is a 501(c)(6) organization formed to serve its members. The mission of the Perrysburg Chamber is to promote an environment of opportunity and growth for business and the community at-large in the Perrysburg Area.
